                      African & Asiatic Lions

Lions are a member of the big cats family. There are two types of lions, the Asiatic and the African lion. The lion population has decreased over time. Long ago, lions used to live worldwide and have a population of 200,000, but now, lions live only in Africa and maintain a small population in Gir Forest, India.

Similarities and Differences between African & Asiatic Lions

African lions

African lions are slightly bigger than Asiatic lions. Unlike African males, Asiatic males do not live with a female in the pride unless they are mating or have a large kill. The male Asiatic lion has a shorter and darker mane and on the other hand, the Africa males have a fuller and longer mane.   There are only 523  Asiatic lions and about 20,000 African lions. This is because of poachers illegally hunting the lions and habitat destruction. Today, many people are working to protect lions and you can too!
